Boosting your endurance will not only benefit your workouts, but it will also give you more energy and motivation throughout the day. Hitting the gym regularly for some endurance training is a sure-fire way to increase your lasting ability, however there are some foods which can also give you a power boost and keep you going for longer.

Peanut butter

Improve your mental focus prior to a workout with some peanut butter. Peanut butter contains tyrosine which releases extra dopamine to boost your focus. It’s also a fantastic source of protein- just two tablespoons contain 7g of protein! As well as making you feel fuller for longer, the additional protein will build and repair muscles.

Gherkins

Did you know that when you sweat during a workout, you’re losing electrolytes? Try eating gherkins before a workout, as the sodium and potassium levels will keep those electrolyte levels topped up. Although gherkins are a great addition to your diet as they provide your body an increase in nutrients, it’s worth knowing that they do have a very high amount of sodium so they should only be eaten in moderation.

Pomegranate

Pomegranates are rich in nutrients and antioxidants that work wonders for the body! They are high in polyphenols which can help to reduce muscle pain and inflammation by up to 10 percent, and they also contain 15 percent of the daily vitamin C intake which protects you against the sun and helps to fight cancer.

Beetroot

Beetroot triggers the release of nitric oxide which helps to regulate blood flow, giving an automatic boost of energy- perfect for those times you need to push through that last set! They can also help to lower blood pressure as they relax and dilate blood vessels,

Bananas

Bananas are a fantastic go-to snack to boost energy and stamina as they sustain blood sugar levels. They are full of potassium which can protect you against muscle cramps during a workout and also keep nasty leg cramps at bay!

Try adding these foods to your diet and you’ll soon notice a difference, both in the gym and in your own health. You’ll be able to workout for longer and your body will be healthier than ever.
