Poor skin health is quite a common complaint in teens and adults alike.

If it’s something you continue to struggle with, there are a number of natural ways you can make it look and feel better…

Create a daily routine

By having skin care habits you stick to every day, you can find solutions that your skin will listen to.

To start with, you need to find the essential products that best fit the needs of your skin.

You should try and stick to completely natural products unless your skin problems require certain ingredients found in manufactured products. Some of the harmful ingredients and chemicals found in unnatural skincare products can, in fact, age the skin.

The skin should be cleaned as thoroughly as possible every day. You should avoid using soaps where possible as they are prone to drying out the skin. Instead, look for a cleansing product that has hydrating properties.

As well as this, you should be using warm water rather than hot water, as hot water too will dehydrate the skin.

Cut down on drinking and smoking

Excessive or regular consumption of alcohol will really start to dehydrate the skin. This can exacerbate ageing, especially wrinkles. It will also begin to inflame the bodily tissues, causing a reaction that leads to red skin.

If you are a smoker, your blood flow will start to decrease. This will also encourage ageing, including wrinkles but can also stimulate psoriasis.

Eat a balanced diet

Most fruits and vegetables provide excellent nutrients to the body that can significantly improve your complexion. Leafy greens and berries can be particularly beneficial.

You should always make sure that you get your five a day.

Eating too much red meat can also be bad for the skin. Try and look for alternative protein sources, like fish.

Though most of the time we encourage avoiding fatty foods, some foods that contain fatty acids can be excellent in moderation. By consuming the likes of avocados and dark chocolate, you may notice more glowing skin.

And most importantly, remember to take your vitamins!

Exfoliate

If you’re prone to bad skin, you should be exfoliating at least once a week. At the same time, you should only exfoliate for a maximum of 4 times in one week. By over-exfoliating, your skin will become extremely irritated.

Exfoliating can be a great way to prevent ingrown facial hairs, which can not only appear unsightly but also be rather painful.

This procedure will also help to scrub away dead skin cells to reveal the brighter, smoother skin beneath.

Wear sunscreen daily

As unconventional as it may appear, especially in the UK, you should actually be wearing sunscreen every day if you’re heading out.

Wearing at least SPF 30 will help to protect you from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

This is a great prevention tactic that not only helps to protect the skin from immediate damage but also long-term. By keeping the skin moist, it is less likely to get dry and cracked with age.

Use the sauna and steam room

Moisture inside steam rooms is great for hydrating skin – which is essential for its overall health.

By using the steam room regularly, you will help the skin get rid of its toxins. At first, they will rise to the surface so though it may appear to be worse, it is in the process of getting better.

The steam room is also brilliant for balancing oil production. For this reason, steam rooms, along with saunas, are great for helping acne caused by oily skin.

Not only this but the intense heat inside both saunas and steam rooms will open the pores. By doing this, the pores can be cleaned and unclogged through sweating.

Saunas can also be great for increasing blood circulation. The benefit of this is that this will increase the amount of oxygen and nutrients that get to the skin.

We do recommend that you do not spend more than 15-30 minutes in either facility at a time. If you stay in too long, the skin will start to become dehydrated which will, in effect, reverse any positive effects.

Using these regularly can be excellent for improving the overall health and appearance of your skin. If you’re looking for a relaxing, friendly place to achieve your needs, you can find us here.
